Cosmetology Career Area

Overview

Cosmetology is the art and science of beauty care. The program gives the students the required 1000 hours needed to take the exam. The exam has been established by the Massachusetts Board of Cosmetology which involves the study of hair care, skin care and nail care, sanitation and safety also the necessary employability skills needed to be successful in this increasingly competitive cosmetology career, all within a 3 ½ year program.

Upon completing their 1000 hours students are eligible to take the State Board Exam. The exam consists of a practical exam which includes all the technical skills they have practiced on manikins, other students, faculty and the general public and a written test that consists of all the theory book work they have completed in the related classroom. Upon successfully passing the exam they are eligible for Co-Op providing their grades, conduct and attendance are in good standing.
